The Delights of Anthony Andrews . . . or a Valentine's Month Blog Hop!

Sunday, February 2, 2014

I'm not usually all goo-goo eyed in the month of February. In fact, this is usually my least favorite month of the year! All single adults probably feel the same, inundated with red hearts and pink flowers and boxes of calories on every side, and no spouse to share them with.

But, this year, for whatever reason, I felt compelled to try something new. This man, this gorgeous man, is Anthony Andrews. Born in 1948 in London, Anthony recently celebrated his 66th birthday. You might say that I like them old, or you could more accurately say that age never matters to me.

The photo above is from his enchanting role as Sir Percival Blakeney, Baronet in The Scarlet Pimpernel in 1982. Yes, we're talking 32 years ago, making him a delicious 34-years-old during the filming of this movie.

Some of you may never understand my fascination with this actor. He hasn't done all that much, I grant you. At least, not enough to be largely recognized. However, there is something about him: the lines of his face, the smile in his eyes, the way he flips his tie or taps his hard-to-describe magnifying glass against his lips, that just makes me love him.

So, to honor one of my favorite British actors of all time, I will spend this month watching and reviewing his films, possibly tracking down tidbits about him, photos of some of his plays that I wish I'd been alive to see, and overall basking in the glory that is Anthony Andrews!

This is a blog hop, so come, join me, and may you come to love him as I do . . . well, maybe not quite as much as I do because I won't share him. *winks* If you decide to participate by writing blog posts for this theme, make sure to add them to my linky down below. I'll have it on every page associated with this Blog Hop. And remember, when you post your pages, make sure to copy the code listed under: What is a Blog Hop?

I've set the Linky list to stop accepting links about 16 years from now, so if anyone has posts they've written in the past, or will write 5 years from now, please feel free to share them here!

UPDATE 9/17/20 - The Linky List broke somehow! Weird. So I've added all of the links to the blog hop articles below. They're also all located on my Anthony Andrews Blog Count page. Enjoy!

  1. This sounds so fun! Will there be a way to participate, like if I finally watch TSP and comment on it? Like maybe you do a Linky thing where anyone who has ever reviewed one of his movies (or just one particular movie) can link to their post there, no matter how old the post is? Just an idea I had once for a blog party, thought I'd share it and see if you like it.

Anyway, I have some favorite actors that other people don't seem to understand why I'd be fascinated by them, so I sympathize!

And by "hard-to-describe magnifying glass," do you possibly mean his monocle?

    1. Well, it's not quite a monocle. He doesn't actually put up in his eye. It's more of a lorgnette, but it only has one lens. And he uses different ones. One has a round lens and one is more square shaped. It's so hard to describe!

I have never used Linky, but there's a first time for everything and that would make participation a whole lot easier! I'll play around with it and see if I can get it working properly. If I do, I'll add the linky to all of the blog posts for this fest. In fact, I might change it over to a blog hop, which would be fun!

    2. Maybe a quizzing glass, then? Short handle you hold onto that can have a chain or ribbon tied to it. (Obviously, I need to watch the movie, don't I! Planning to start it at the beginning again tonight.)

A blog hop sounds like fun! I know lots of people who love TSP -- have you ever been to The Day Dream, a blog dedicated entirely to him? You might want to leave them a comment letting them know about this -- I bet you'd find some new friends!

    3. That's a little closer, but still not quite right. You'll see what I mean when you get a chance to watch the movie. And yes, it is somewhat silly, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. I'm an Anthony fangirl so I love it, but not everyone feels quite the same about him. ;)

I hopped on over to The Day Dream! Thanks for the link and everything! I posted on a couple of different places, and I don't really expect a huge turnout, but one never knows. Even just having you and Charity and maybe a few other folks participate would be fun enough for me! :) Remember to add the LINKY code to any blog post you do, though, since we're doing it as a Blog Hop. That way your link shows up on any posts that have the LINKY. :)

    4. My friend DKoren (she's following you now, I see) wants to watch it with me, so we'll be starting it together once she gets it from Netflix, probably later this week. Never know -- she might join the blog hop too! I'll be sure to do the Linky thingie when I do get my post up :-)

  2. "A Valentine's Month Actor Fest" is a cool idea!
I've never been big about Valentine's Day either. Cuz I'm single for one. Plus it seems to me just another holiday to make us spend money. I mean, aren't we all still broke from Christmas? Lol.

    1. I buy gifts for my family, but that's about it, and I only do that sometimes. For the most part, VDay annoys me, so I thought it would be fun to do something different for a change. If you decide to watch any of his movies as I watch them, and write a blog post about them, feel free to add that post to the Linky up above! :)

  3. You know I'm going to hold you to this, right? ;)

    1. *laughs* I would expect nothing less! And since I'm doing it as a blog hop, if you decide to write any posts about his movies, make sure to add them to the Linky option up above! I want the internet awash with Anthony Andrews!

    2. I wouldn't want to write a post about anything you've already got planned -- do you have some sort of Anthony Andrews-related assignment for me? :)

  4. Hi! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog.
Is it very hard to set up your own blog? I'm not very techincal but I
can figure things out pretty quick. I'm thinking about making my own but I'm not sure
where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Appreciate it
