Should I do a Christmas gift haul post?

Saturday, December 20, 2025

The only reason I am considering the possibility is because I come from an upper lower class family and we buy accordingly! A few years back we would have been lower middle class, but that line of demarcation has shifted yet again, oh joy.

I think it's important this year for normal people with realistic Christmas asks to actually share their received gifts online. Think of it as maybe trying to turn the tide a little bit. Because I can guarantee you that I am more grateful for my used hardback Jane Austen complete collection that I received from my sister for Christmas several years back than all these wealthy influencers are for their $1000s of dollars worth of gifts received every year.

In a time when the economy is struggling and people are unwisely, but understandably, putting Christmas on credit cards, we need to be reminded that it is not only okay, but healthy, to have realistic Christmas wishes.

It's also important for people to rediscover their personalities. You are unique! You have interests and hobbies and things that delight and fulfill you, and that may literally include a new pair of knitting needles and a used copy of a Bob Hope movie! You can be you. Social media is fooling everyone into being cookie cutter replicas of one another right down to the body scrub in our showers and it's incredibly sad to see.

I don't like putting too much personal information online, but at least this isn't TikTok, and maybe, just maybe, the generosity of my family will be an inspiration to others. Generosity isn't about what cost the most, but about what has the most heart behind it.
