Thank you for your review, and backstory. I 'always' knew RDJ could hold a tune like he did his liquor, and I also always knew he is a huge Steely Dan fan. I am as well. I read some nonsense reviews, and I think he was way ahead back in 2004, now 20 years ago. The Futurist. It really is amazing, the three of them, Brett, David and Massey are so thoroughly into their roles, and develop them magnificently. It is very odd reading a book with such unlikeable characters, but the premise was so compelling that you just can't help but keep reading. It amuses me that my sister and I have completely opposite opinions of this book. I still really like and enjoy it and find the era and setting fascinating. She can't stand it because it is set in the 1960s with all the cultural turnover that goes along with that! However, it was the movie that lead to me read the book and I loved it. I too found the social observations of 1969 very interesting. First, it kept me guessing all the way to the end, which is not always the case with Christie's books. Second, I didn't like a single character, but I flew through this book in two days, which is really unusual -- if I don't connect to any characters, a book usually drags for me.
