January 1, 2011

We welcome a new year, totally empty of smudges, well, maybe not since it's the end of the day. I don't know about you, but I've never been very impressed with New Year Day as a holiday. It just seems like an excuse to party hearty, drink yourself into oblivion, and shoot off illegal fireworks into your neighbor's back yard. In other words, "eh."

But the idea of a "New Year's Resolution" isn't so bad. Who doesn't want a fresh start at the start of a fresh new year? Except that those resolutions will probably be broken within a week, maybe a month, at the most, particularly if they revolve around diets and detoxes. So maybe we're making resolutions about the wrong things! Maybe, instead of focusing on the long-term we need to be focusing on smaller goals and desires that are more easily and quickly reached!

This year I'm
trying something new. Instead of making a ton of resolutions for the entire year, I'll make some resolutions for the month. Let's say, 5 monthly goals and 1 resolution for the year. Here's how it works. I'll post 5 accomplishments of the past month and my 5 goals for the upcoming month. Here we go!

December 2010 Accomplishments
  1. Choosing to play only 1 Facebook game and dropping all the others.
  2. Learning the delightful art of Amigurumi crochet.
  3. Getting financial aid in order to start my BA studies in January.
  4. Writing timely thank-you notes for all of my received Christmas gifts.
  5. Planning and executing a successful jewelry party.

January 2011 Goals
  1. Studying for all of my classes (Milton included) in a timely manner!
  2. Mastering the cable stitch so I can knit something other than a scarf.
  3. Write at least 10,000 words in the story of my choice.
  4. Make the floor of my room visible before bed every night!
  5. Lastly, but not least, study the Bible at least 3 times a week.

2011 Yearly Resolution
  • Exercise daily, even if it's just some jumping-jacks or push-ups.

  2. So far so good. It counts to read The Bible in church and my bedroom has never been so clean.

  3. I'm thinking that dancing to a Frankie Avalon tune counts as exercise, especially when done vigorously. ;)
